Do’s and Don’ts of Numbing Cream for Tattoos

Do’s and Don’ts of Numbing Cream for Tattoos

It’s no big secret that getting a tattoo can be a painful process. That is why many people turn to the use of numbing cream for tattoos for a pain-free solution.

However, there are still some rules to follow to ensure a seamless experience. In this article, we’ll explore the do’s and don’ts when using numbing cream for tattoos to eliminate pain.

Numbing Cream Before Getting Tattooed

The pain involved with getting tattooed is part of the ritual, and most people can tolerate the tingly sensation for a couple of hours. However, there may be times when the pain is unbearable, and you may wish to consider numbing your skin prior to your tattoo appointment.

Some parts of the body, such as the ribs, the tops of the feet, and the backs of the knees, are much more prone to being painful when getting tattooed than others.

Tattoo Numbing Cream can make your tattoo experience much more pleasant, especially at the start of a long tattoo session.

Planning Ahead with Tattoo Numbing Cream

Planning ahead of time means less pain and frustration for everyone involved. It may seem excessive to begin this process more than an hour before being tattooed, but it is well worth it!

Apply our cream to clean, dry skin 90 minutes before the tattoo session for optimal results.

Although 90 minutes may seem like a long time, keep in mind that the cream needs to fully penetrate the top layers of the skin and reach the subdermal layer, which is where the needle and ink will be inserted.

To help you out, we’ve put together a list of do’s and don’ts when applying our Signature Tattoo Numbing Cream:

Do’s When Applying Numbing Cream for Tattoos

Do a spot test before applying the cream

Spot test the day before use on a smaller portion of the area that will be tattooed the next day for 10-20 minutes, especially if you have sensitive skin. This will ensure that your skin does not become inflamed.

Despite it being completely normal to have some minor localised redness, we just want to make sure that there is no negative effect on your skin whatsoever.

Do wash and exfoliate the target area prior

Make sure you wash and exfoliate the area that is going to be tattooed thoroughly with soap, water and an exfoliant to scrub away any dirt or dead skin, which will aid in the penetration of the cream.

Following that, dry the area completely for a seamless application of the numbing cream for tattoos.

Do apply the numbing cream to the entire target area

Make sure you cover the entire area that’s going to be tattooed, overlapping by about an inch all around.

This is to ensure that you don’t miss any spots, thus resulting in you feeling the pain in those missed areas during your session.

Do cover the area with cling film

Cover the entire area with cling film after applying the cream. The heat under the plastic wrap helps activate the cream and keeps the cream from drying out.

If the cream dries out, it won't work as well, so keep the plastic wrap in place to get the full numbing effect.

When it's time to start the tattooing process, unwrap the cling film and wash the area with whatever soap the artist prefers.

Make sure to thoroughly cleanse the skin; otherwise, the cream may interfere with the stencil, making it too easy to wash off.

Don’ts when Applying Numbing Cream for Tattoos

Don't forget to wear a glove while applying the cream

Unless you want your entire hand to go numb as well or the cream to end up transferring to other areas, we suggest you use gloves.

Don’t drink any form of alcohol prior

We recommend that you don’t drink any form of alcohol within 24 hours of tattooing to ensure maximum numbing; otherwise, the numbing may not be as effective or long-lasting.

Don’t apply the cream like a lotion

Don't apply the cream like lotion. Our numbing cream may feel similar to a lotion, but it serves a completely different purpose and must be applied differently.

Apply it thick enough (2mm) that you can see it sitting on your skin and then proceed to rub it in thoroughly.

Don’t wash the area again if the numbing effect starts to wear off

If the numbness starts to wear off during your session, take a break. Do not wash your skin with soap and water again; this will make it more sensitive and will actually neutralise some of the numbing effects.

That’s not a good thing. Instead, apply more of the numbing cream for tattoos onto the skin. Don’t stress too much about the ink on your skin. Our numbing cream could care less about whether there’s ink already on the skin.

Allow it to sit for a few minutes before washing the skin again, and then you can get right back to tattooing!

Why Choose Tattoo Numbing Cream?

Many other companies that produce numbing cream for tattoos tend to give a warning that for more lengthy tattoo sessions (longer than 1 hour under the needle), it is likely that the numbing cream will wear off.

However, Tattoo Numbing Cream prides itself on our excellent formula where the skin remains numb for up to 3-4 hours! Additionally, you can always re-apply the cream for even longer sessions.

Another point many other companies inform their customers of is that it is likely that the numbing cream for tattoos will wear off when the artist wipes the area with soap during the sanitation process.

Conversely, with our product, you wrap the numbing cream in place for 90 minutes before the procedure. After the 90 minutes are up, you should remove the cling film and wipe the cream away with a paper towel, leaving you ready for your pain-free tattoo! So, in other words, your tattoo artist wiping the area with soap will not negatively affect the experience.
